The Ordinances of the Church
Baptism in Water
The ordinance of baptism by immersion is commanded by the Scriptures. All who repent and believe on Christ as Saviour and Lord are to be baptized. Thus they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life.
Matthew 28:19 [KJV/NIV]
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mark 16:16 [KJV/NIV]
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Acts 10:47,48 [KJV/NIV]
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Romans 6:4 [KJV/NIV]
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Holy Communion
The Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements --bread and the fruit of the vine-- is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4 [KJV/NIV]) (4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.), a memorial of his suffering and death (1 Corinthians 11:26 [KJV/NIV]) (26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.), and a prophecy of His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26 [KJV/NIV]) (26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.), and is enjoined on all believers "till He come!"
